Well Tanks

The well tank is one of the most important parts of the water system. It not only provides water storage, it provides a source of water pressure when the well pump isn’t running. Without a well tank, your water pump would need to run every time you turn on the faucet. When you decrease the amount of starts and stops a water pump has, you increase the life expectancy of that pump. Therefore the larger the water tank, the better it is for your water pump.
Your typical water tank has a rubber diaphragm which is designed to trap a pocket of pressurized air above it. This pocket of air provides pressure on that diaphragm and in turn forces pressurized water out of the bottom of the tank. When this diaphragm fails it is very important to change the water tank as soon as possible. A tank with a bad diaphragm makes the water pump run constantly and this is very harmful to your water pump. The most common sign that your well tank has failed is when the pressure switch on the system clicks on and off too quickly. Generally you want to have almost a minute in between clicks. Even if your water tank looks brand new on the outside, if the pump is starting and stopping too quickly, there could be a problem.
In our experience, half of all pump failures are due to a faulty well tank. If your concerned that your water tank isn’t functioning correctly, or if you haven’t had your system serviced in over 15 years, there is a good chance you could have a faulty tank or could need your air pressure adjusted in your tank. Call today and set up an appointment for a well system check-up.
